Frederic C. Morrison was born November 2, 1921 in Millinocket, Maine, the son of Daniel A. and Clara B. (Russell) Morrison. He passed on March 17, 2017 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He graduated from Stearns High School in 1940. He then attended Maine School of Commerce in 1941-1942 and entered the Army Air Corps in September of 1942. He later married his high school sweetheart, Leatha Catherine Davis, on April 12, 1943 while he was home on furlough. They were soon to celebrate their 74th wedding anniversary. They had a deep and abiding love for each other. Fred served in the Western Pacific in 1945 with the 348th Air Force Squadron, 20th Air Force. He was awarded two Bronze Service Stars for his participation in the Battle of Iwo Jima and Air Offensive Against Japan. He was discharged from the service in December of 1945. Fred returned to Millinocket and went to work for Great Northern Paper Company in their Accounting Department. He held various accounting positions throughout the years. Fred retired in 1980 as the company's Townsite Manager. His service for the town of Millinocket included election to the school board, budget committee member and library committee member. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and was at various times the Sexton, Trustee and Deacon. Fred, also affectionately known as Grampie Fred, enjoyed many lifetime. He loved to garden and was a very skilled carpenter, making many items in his home with such love. He built a lovely gazebo in the backyard for his wife whom he referred to as his "bride". He built little Christmas trees made from lights and kept them inside the gazebo which were lighted again in honor of his passing. He enjoyed hosting many family gatherings in the backyard with the 4th of July being a very special time for family to be together. He also loved organizing a birthday BBQ for Leatha and a fire pit to roast marshmallows later. Fred and Letha also hosted a very special Christmas Eve gathering for all the family to enjoy. He also wrote beautiful pomes to his "bride" throughout the years and could recite little ditties he had learned in his youth, even in his last days. Fred and Leatha also enjoyed an evening ride in the summer months and a lengthy ride every Sunday, weather permitting. Fred is survived by his wife of almost 74 years, Leatha. His surviving children and their spouses include Sherrie and husband Harold (Mac) Curtis; Davis and wife Gladdys(Currie); Rebecca and husband John Kelly; Mark and wife Rhonda (Ouellette); Heather and husband Edward Craig. His grandchildren include: Stacy Curtis, Travis Curtis, Ryan Morrison, Marcy (Morrison) Lalone, Megan (Morrison) Parente, Jennifer Kelly, John "Jack" Kelly, Edward Craig, and Naomi (Craig) Lujan. Great-grandchildren include Paige Curtis, Cash Curtis, Aysha Lalone, Gavin Lalone, Tyson Craig, Brendan Craig, Aiden Craig, Jacob Hannafin, Caleb Hannafin, and Donovan Hannafin. He also has two great-great-grandchildren Reece McAvoy and Ryker McAvoy. Fred was predeceased by a son, Roderic and an infant daughter, Lisa Marie, as well as his parents. He was also predeceased by all his siblings and their spouses which included Donald and Ann (Cameron); Marguerite "Peg" and Raymond Doane; Geraldine and Jozef Tara; Roderick and Rosella (Murray); Grace and Harold Greene; Violet "Vi" and John Neal; Eleanor "Ellie" and Charles Horne; Ethel and Clair Cianchette; Richard and Lucille Morrison, and a great-grandson Keegan Hannafin. A very special thank you goes out to all of his caregivers who not only gave excellent care but also came to love Fred and Leatha very much. They are now a part of the family. They include Debbie Dumais, Gina Beaulieu, Rose Gantnier, Marion Bisson, Melissa Kimball, Rachel Potvin and Katelyn Montgomery. Also, a very special thank you from the family to his daughter, Heather, and granddaughter, Naomi, for their timeless efforts in caring for Fred and Leatha. A service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Fred may make gifts in his memory to the Katahdin Area Support Group.
