Millinocket – Leo L. “Red” Kittrick, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at Eastern Maine Medical Center with family by his side after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was born April 25, 1932 in Millinocket, the son of Leo and Jeanette (Larkin) Kittrick. Red graduated from Stearns High School where he was active in football, basketball, and baseball. The highlight of Red’s basketball participation came when he scored the winning basket at the Eastern Maine Championship game against John Bapst High School. After high school, he attended Ricker College and was a member of the National Guard. He spent a number of years selling Prudential Insurance before moving back to his hometown in Millinocket. There he worked at the Steam Plant until his retirement from Great Northern. Red enjoyed family and the many get togethers held up to Millinocket Lake. A great conversationalist and story teller, Red had a witty sense of humor. Snowmobiling with Carl, fishing at Slaughter and Nesowadnehunk with his son in law, Jeff, golf and hunting continued to be enjoyed pastimes. As a member of the American Legion and The Elks, Red enjoyed his volunteer time and active participation. Red was predeceased by his wife Carole and son Thomas Kittrick. He is survived by his son, Leo L. Kittrick, III and his wife Mary of Millinocket; two daughters, Kathy Currier and her husband Rick of Lincoln, and Susan Dill and her husband Rob of Jackman; a daughter in law, Mary Kittrick of Alabama; twelve grandchildren, Andrea, Tommy, Paul, Sarah, Marissa, Jenny, Lucy, Bethany, Michael, Kathryn, Josh, and Travis; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a special sister in law, Mary Ruth Reed. A kind and loving soul, Red lived a full life and will be missed by those who knew him. A celebration of Red’s life will be held 12 -1 P.M. Saturday, April 8 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, with a service beginning at 1 P.M. officiated by Rev. Terry Given. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Red may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462.
