Ruth Lavoie Obituary

Millinocket – Ruth J. Lavoie, 78, wife of the late Joseph Omer Lavoie, Sr., passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at a Bangor hospital. She was born February 9, 1939 in Millinocket, the daughter of John J. and Dorothy M. (Stewart) Friel. Ruth grew up in Millinocket, and attended local schools. She loved being active, and was always ready to go most anywhere – she just needed a few minutes to get her make-up on! She enjoyed making jewelry, shopping, and going for rides. Ruth was very involved with her children and grandchildren, and especially liked watching her son, Joe, race. She recently started playing Pokeno, and always won all her friends pennies! Ruth will be remembered as being an all around fun person who enjoyed spending time with people. She is survived by two children, Joseph O. Lavoie, Jr. and his wife Patti of Millinocket, and Lee Ann Vance and her husband Jeff of Bangor; five grandchildren, Christopher Jacobs, Joseph Jacobs and his wife Breanah, Brandon Parady, and Alyssa and Katlynn Vance; three great grandchildren, Jonathan Clay, Natasha Jacobs, and Cayden Jacobs; four siblings, Frank Friel and his wife Bernadette, Donna Kunkel, Barbara Friel, and Brenda Alley and her husband Howard; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Ruth was predeceased by an infant daughter, Linda Lee Lavoie, siblings John Friel, Robert Friel, June Wright, and William Friel, a special friend, David Burleigh, Sr., and her canine friend, Daisy. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Friday, March 31 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Saturday, April 1 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Ruth may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462.
