Catherine R. Johns,78, died May 20th at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport,Maine. She was born March 20, 1936 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Harlow and Catherine Spaulding Raymond. She grew up in Buffalo,N.Y. and graduated from Riverside High School. She graduated from HobartWilliam Smith College in Geneva,N.Y. and the University of Maine Law School. Catherine worked as a lawyer,specializing in family and real estate law, in Portland,Maine for many years. She later taught at Genesee Community College in Batavia,N.Y. She assigned counsel in Genesse County, N.Y. helping many who could not otherwise afford legal help. She also worked as a lawyer for N.O.W. (National Organization of Women). Catherine enjoyed philosophical and intellectual conversations. She also enjoyed reading and was often found with her nose in a good book. She loved all animals and loved her beloved dog, “Russell.” She was predeceased by her husband, Richard M. Johns. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Elizabeth vonFelten and her husband Ken of Rockport,ME Sarah Woodman and her husband Leif of Johnson Creek,NY Son, Richard E. Johns of Darien,GA Sister, Helen Dowdell of Jacksonville,FL Brother, Harlow P. Raymond of Manchester,NH Grandchildren, Rev. Vanessa E. Colesworthy of Thomaston,ME Margaret Woodman of Johnson Creek,NY William Woodman of Johnson Creek,NY Nieces, Catherine Dowdell of Jacksonville,FL Heather Raymond of Lynn,MA Nephews, James Dowdell of Brooksville,FL Charles Dowdell of Atlanta,GA Her beloved dog, Russell A gathering to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday May 25th at Bartlett Woods, 20 Bartlett Drive in Rockland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Catherine’s memory to your local library.
