Grace Conway

Grace Louise Conway, 81, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2013 at Penbay Medical Center. She was born on April 24, 1931 in Tenants Harbor, ME the daughter of the late Wesley and Lena Morris Mills. She grew up in Tenants Harbor and attended local schools graduating from Tenants Harbor High School. After her schooling she began work at the Rockland 5 & 10 after her time there she transitioned to the old Knox hospital in Rockland and then to the hospital in Gardiner. She married her husband Douglas in 1953 and his military career took the two to Kentucky where they would be stationed until 1957. After moving back to Maine the couple settled in Rockland where she would begin work at the Chevron Oil branch in Rockland until its closing. After her time with Chevron she would work for Sproul and Lash lumber and continue on there through its various change of ownerships until she began work as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for Shorty’s Towing a job she would hold for over 20 years before finally retiring. She loved to cook and enjoyed spending time in her gardens. She would have both a vegetable and flower garden every year. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was predeceased by her loving husband Douglas Conway Sr. A brother Arthur Mills and a sister Frances Philbrook Survivors include her son Douglas Conway Jr., of Rockland, ME Sisters Elsie York of Rockland, ME Mae Hupper of Rockport, ME Pearl Farmer of Windsor, GA Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
