Helen Ida (Johnson) Markwith, 93, of Warren, Maine, died Saturday, January 11th at the Veterans’ Home in Augusta. She was the wife of the late Roy W. Markwith of Boothbay Harbor, ME. Born and raised in Massachusetts, she lived in Arlington Heights, MA during the World War II years and was a Navy veteran who served in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She met her husband of 61 years at a USO dance held at an island fort in Boston Harbor. Prior to moving to Boothbay Harbor in July of 2005, she resided in Osterville, Massachusetts and lived in Livingston, New Jersey for 37 years where she worked for Burrelle’s Press Clipping Bureau in a management role. Surviving are two sons and their spouses: Steven Markwith and his wife, Pamela, of Warren, Maine and Peter Markwith and his wife, Shirley, of Manchester, New Hampshire. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.), P.O.Box 635, Boothbay, Maine 04537. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
