Rockland – Patricia Ault Headley, 93, passed away in the comfort of her family at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine on August 3, 2016. She was born on March 15, 1923 in Summit, New Jersey to parents Charles Henry Ault and Anne (Zwigard) Ault. Patricia graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, and after high school worked for Bell Telephone. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II, serving from 1943-45, and received an Honorable Discharge. After her service, she attended the University of Vermont, majoring in English, then many years later, returned to college to complete her Library Science Degree from Brookdale College in New Jersey. Patricia met and married Richard Headley and together raised 4 children. She worked as a librarian in Freehold Township, New Jersey school system for many years. After retiring in 1985, she and Richard moved to Thomaston, Maine. There she enjoyed her family and time volunteering in the library at Pen Bay Medical Center. As a resident at Bartlett Woods in Rockland for her last two years, she was grateful for new friends and the thoughtfulness of staff. Among her many passions were gardening, watercolor painting, antiquing, shopping, bird watching, cooking, studying her English heritage, and desserts, especially coffee ice cream. Patricia was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Richard in 2000, a sister Annette Cushing, and a brother Robert Ault. She will be greatly missed by her children: Daughters – Betsy Headley (Jeff Smith) of Swanville, ME, Susan VanCampen (Tim) of Thomaston, ME, Patricia Read (Harry) of Camden, ME, and her Son – Richard Headley Jr. of Ocean Grove, NJ. Patricia also leaves behind her 8 grandchildren (and families) – Todd Holmes, Christopher Holmes, Kevin Holmes, Amanda Maynard, Molly Van Campen, Greta Van Campen, Hannah Read and Isaac Read, as well as 12, soon to be 13, great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A private service will be held for Patricia as she is laid to rest beside her loving husband Richard in the Village Cemetery. Hall’s of Thomaston has care of the arrangements.
