Robert Pease

Robert Alden Pease of Thomaston, Maine died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine. Robert was born in Natick, Massachusetts on March 20, 1927, the only child of Carl Maurice Pease and Martha Louise (Clough) Pease. He married Claudia Camille Wigglesworth on March 24, 1951. Robert graduated from Natick High School where he was on the football team. He had worked from the time he was thirteen, enlisted in the State Guard at fifteen and in the United States Navy at seventeen where he served for three years. In his senior year at Natick High School, the school board issued a policy whereby seniors in good academic standing could enlist in the service and still receive their diploma. A good deal of his naval service was spent on the U.S.S. President Jackson, a troop transport ship, which docked in various countries, some of which included China, Japan, the Philippines, and Guam. Following his discharge from the Navy, he developed a renewed interest in education and after completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Suffolk University, he entered Simmons College where he received a Master of Science degree in psychiatric social work, later going on to complete a degree in the Community Psychiatry Program at Harvard University. Robert had a long, distinguished career as a civilian employee for the Department of Army in their Mental Health Program at Fort Devens, Massachusetts and its satellite NIKE bases, receiving numerous awards for outstanding performance and rose to the position of Chief of Service, the only civilian to do so in the Army.
