Walter Lee Hupper, 82, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland with his loving family by his side. He was born in Warren, ME on June 13, 1930 the son of the late Ashel Hupper and Noelle Cryder. He grew up with his grandparents in Port Clyde and attended local schools and was a graduate of St. George High School class of 1948.
On November 5, 1950 he married Lillian Spear and the two made their home in Port Clyde. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded. Upon his arrival home he began his work on the water as a lobster man. He would work in this field until he was 80 eventually retiring from his last boat the You and I. He was a member and officer of the St. George Fire Department and Ambulance service at one point in time serving as the Assistant Fire Chief. He was a friend to all he met and loved to strike up a conversation, something he could keep going for hours. His hobbies included vegetable gardening with a small corner designated for flowers and wood working or just tinkering in his workshop.
He was well loved and respected by everyone in the community and will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of calling him friend.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years Lillian Spear Hupper

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday March 2, 2013 at Halls of Thomaston from 1 to 2 in the afternoon and a celebration of life will be held at 2pm at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Maxwell officiating.
