Obituary for Gilbert V. O'Clair

ASHLAND---Gilbert “Sonny” O’Clair, husband of Charlene Beaulier O’Clair, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on May 17, 2013. He was born August 1, 1928 in Sheridan, son of Felix and Sophie (Boulier) O’Clair. He was employed by Great Northern Paper for 39 years until his retirement. He then worked for Fraser Timber Limited. He served as a Town Constable in Ashland for 15 years. He was a past member of the Ashland Rotary Club. Sonny was a communicant of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the parish council. He was a devoted husband and father. Some of his fondest memories were of trips he and Charlene took with their children. They traveled to Rome, Italy, where they were able to visit the Vatican and saw Pope John Paul II. Sonny spoke often about the trip he took with his sons to Boston to watch a Red Sox game. A few of their last trips were to New York City and to Atlanta, Georgia, for their granddaughter’s wedding. His most recent joy was seeing his grandson in a police uniform. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlene of Ashland; daughters Christine Ordway and her husband John of Loganville, GA, Carol Coté and her husband Danny of Ashland, Michelle Gallant of Rockport, and Nola Billups and her husband Todd Gouldsboro, NC; sons Brent and his wife Mary Ellen of Saco, Bryon of Ashland, Doug and his companion Dawn Noyes of Baileyville; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela, six sisters, six brothers, and son-in-law Shawne Gallant. The family would like to express a special thank you to Ruth Collins from Hospice of Aroostook for her exceptional and comforting care.
