Kay Masse

Kay Sharon Masse, 81, passed away on October 22, 2019, at the Barron Center in Portland. Kay was born on June 5, 1938 in Page, West Virginia to Vincent and Immogene (Garbett) Springer. She attended grade school in West Virginia, high school in Cincinnati and got her nursing degree at Pasadena City College in California. She was employed as a registered nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA, Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, Fieldcrest in Waldoboro, Miles Home Health in Damariscotta. She was also employed with the State of Maine. Kay loved gardening. She was a master seamstress, a metropolitan opera patron, and enjoyed dollhouse construction and carpentry. One of her works, a lighthouse, can be seen at the Thomaston Public Library. She was a volunteer at the Waldoboro Public Library and was a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church in Whitefield. Kay was predeceased by her husband Fern Masse, daughter Michelle Masse-Ellis, daughter Cheryl Masse, sister Robin Springer-Jordan, and brother David Springer. She is survived by her partner, Brian Simmons of Friendship, daughter, Andrea Masse of Rockland and her partner, John W. Sargent; daughter, Natalie Masse and her husband Jan Visser of Waldoboro, brother, Timothy Springer of San Dimas, CA, granddaughter, Savannah Creech of Santa Margarita, CA, grandsons, Paul Hessen, Ventura, CA, Nathan Schneekluth of New York City and Henry Schneekluth of Los Angeles. Kay’s creative legacy will continue in the hearts of those she shared her talents and gifts with over the years. Visitations will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, in Waldoboro. A memorial mass will be held at St. Denis at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s name to the Waldoboro Public Library, P.O. Box 768, Waldoboro, ME 04572 and to P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856 (mailing address) and 123 John Street, Camden, ME 04843 (physical address) Arrangements are entrusted to Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro.
