Nancy Murch Obituary

Nancy Louise Murch, 75, passed away, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. She was born January 1, 1935 in Rockland, Maine a daughter of the late Chester and Mildred Meigs Reed and attended local schools. She met and married Ralph (Bud) Knight and they made their home in Kentucky from 1954 until he was discharged from the service. They had two daughters together and have remained friends through the years. In the late 60’s and early 70’she worked swing-shifts for Sylvania. In 1960 she met Walter (Mike) Matson, they were married, and lived in Cushing. She helped construct her home, with her own hands, alongside her husband and together they had five daughters. She enjoyed canning, baking and sewing clothes for her seven daughters. Nancy worked at the Lucette Boarding Home in Thomaston, before she and her husband built her own assisted living home, Pond View, in Cushing. Nancy then moved to her home in Tenants Harbor for a time, later returning to Cushing to build her third home and business with the help of Ed Murch. With Ed’s help, Nancy also owned and operated her own business, Nancy’s Take Out in Cushing, during the summer months. Nancy enjoyed visiting with the regulars and tourists alike. When she could get away, Nancy enjoyed traveling to visit her family in Canada, Florida, California and Washington State. Nancy was actively involved in the Living Waters Church in Rockland where she sang at the Church which aired their live performances on WRKD in Rockland. She wrote many songs in her head and enjoyed sharing them with her family and friends. Never an idle woman, she was always working and helping others. She loved caring for the elderly that resided in her boarding home. She enjoyed being with her family and helped take care of them right up to the moment she joined the Lord. She was often heard singing and whistling. Her love of God, cooking, sewing, homemaking and music have been passed on to her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Murch Brothers, Howard, Gerald and Albert Reed Sister, Phyllis Simmons Granddaughter, Tanya Marie Pease Survivors include daughters, Elaine Stone, of Centralia, Washington Susan Waterbury and her husband, Frank, of Jupiter, FL Wanda Ames and her husband, Kenny, of Waldoboro, ME Sharon Matson, of Cushing, ME Sheila Matson, of Stamford, NY Valarie Corbett, of Cushing, ME Violet Matson, of Thomaston, ME 18 Grandchildren Many great grandchildren Sisters, Ruth Benner, of Rockland, ME Violet Benner, of Reseda, CA Many nieces and nephews A visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon to 1 p.m. Friday November 12, 2010 followed by a celebration of Nancy’s life at 1 p.m. at the Word of Life Church, 41 Old Route One in Waldoboro with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating. Burial will follow in the Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro.
