Peter Dow Melgard, 73, died November 8th at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. He was born July 16, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Earl and Margaret Dow Melgard. Pete graduated from Thomaston High School in 1957. He attended the University of Maine and University of Kentucky. He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Young, in 1959. Together they raised their children in the Mid-West. He was a plant manager for Rotation Dynamics until he retired in 2001 to Washington, Maine. He bought a 15 acre farm and raised sheep. He participated and helped his wife as a cashier for the Evening Star Grange. He was a proud and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 26 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #203 in Washington. He attended the People's United Methodist Church in Union. He will be sadly missed by his family and lifelong friends. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred May Melgard of Washington Sons, Stephen Ellis Melgard and his wife Tracy of St. Augustine,FL Richard Allan Melgard and his wife Karen of Milford, OH David Earl Melgard and his wife Rachel of New Fairfield, CT Daughter, Teresa Elizabeth Melgard Robinson and her partner Kelly of Cincinnati, OH Brother, Stephen Christian Melgard and his wife Mary of Punta Gorda, FL and Washington Sisters, Jean Wakefield and her husband James of Punta Gorda, FL Andrea Weltman and her husband David of Venice,FL and Cohasset,MA 14 grandchildren and beloved pet mini schnauzer, “Buddy” Friends and family are welcome to a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 12th at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street in Waldoboro. A Masonic service by Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #203 will be held at 7:30 p.m. A service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday November 13th at the People’s United Methodist Church ,33 Depot Street, Union with Rev. George Hodgkins officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. A private committal service will be held at the Village Cemetary in Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pete’s memory to Harold Alfond Cancer Care Center, 361 Old Belgrade Road, Augusta,ME 04330 or People’s United Methodist Church, c/o Lift Fund, P.O.
