James Clifford Smith, 82, of Hagerstown, MD died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center.  Jim was born August 16, 1932 in Hagerstown to the late Harry W. and Catherine E. (Leather) Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Richard C. Smith, and a grandson, Chad Toms.   Jim graduated from Hagerstown High School Class of 1950, he attended Hagerstown Business College and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.  Jim worked at Fairchild for many years, retiring from Mack Truck as a Test Engineer in 1987, and then worked for Washington County Social Services in the Child Support Unit until 1994.  He was an active member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Cavetown. where he served on the Consistory and sang in the church choir.  Jim played baseball for the Chewsville Amateur League as well as the Mack Truck Engineering Baseball Team.   He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. (Sheaffer) Smith, two sons; Darryl J. Smith of Harrisburg, PA and Kevin C. Smith and his wife Leanne of Carlsbad, CA, two daughters; Patti Jo Fraley of Hagerstown and her late husband Jeff, and Lynnette S. Stoner and husband Jeff of Hagerstown, two step daughters; Amy Weiss and husband Bob of Maui, HI, and Jaimie L. Hall and husband Charlie of Jacksonville, NC, one step son Ronald A. Langlotz III and wife Shannon of Bel Air, MD, one sister Patricia J. Davis and her husband Bill of Smithsburg, one brother; Robert W. Smith and wife Carol of Frederick, MD, one sister in law Phyllis Smith of Chewsville, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.   A funeral service will be held at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 22514 Cavetown Church Road, Cavetown, MD 21720 on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM.  Pastor Kenneth D. Fuller and Pastor Travis Neumann to officiate.  Interment with military honors will immediately follow in adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be held at Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac Street, Hagerstown on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service at church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the church at the above address.
