Eric Lamont Scott Hampstead, Maryland Obituary

Eric Lamont Scott

Eric Lamont Scott, (54) of Westminster, MD passed away on November 15, 2020 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born May 1, 1966 in New York, NY, he was the son of Christopher and Sereta (Hood) Scott and the devoted husband of Dr. Theresa Marie LaMotte. Eric attended and played basketball for Emory and Henry College. He graduated in 1988 with a degree in Mass Communications. Eric worked for WJZ TV Baltimore for 25 years and covered stories around the world, from the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl win to the Winter Olympics in Japan. Eric was the go-to photojournalist for every major hurricane and snow storm to hit the East coast. In his free time, Eric trained and competed in marathons and triathlons, taught spinning classes and was an avid hunter. On September 2018, Eric suffered an aortic dissection and heart attack, and progressed to heart failure. Dr. Erika Feller took over his care in November 2018, and Eric received the LVAD December 2018. During his time with an LVAD, Eric settled in to his role as grandfather (Ga), cooking, Pickle ball, and staying fit for a heart transplant. Eric received the call for a new heart on October 8, 2020. Sometime shortly after, Eric had bilateral strokes, and suffered devastating brain damage. If not for Dr. Feller and LVAD team, Eric would not have had those two sweet years devoted to family. We are forever grateful for the blessing of extra time together. Eric is predeceased by his daughter, Taylor Perdue. In addition to his wife and parents, Eric is survived by daughter, Rylee Grijalba and her husband Erick of Westminster, MD; granddaughter, Leandra Grijalba; grandson, Emerson Grijalba; sister, Tonya Scott Burke of Lynchburg, VA; two nephews, Devon Burke, Andrew Burke; niece, Melody Burke; . A virtual memorial service, sponsored by Bridgeway Community Church, will be offered on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 6:00pm. To request a Zoom link go to the hyperlink on this webpage.
