William Dulany

William Bevard Dulany, 89, of Sykesville, MD passed away on March 19, 2017. Born September 4, 1927 in Eldersburg, MD, he was the son of the late William Washington Dulany and Helen Marie (Bevard) Dulany, and the devoted husband of Winifred Spencer Dulany. Bill Dulany built a stellar career as a member of the bar and an impeccable reputation as an attorney. He was chosen for a wide host of important offices as well as making significant contributions to a variety of philanthropies. Bill’s accomplishments span many decades, both in and outside of his chosen profession: Class President, Sykesville High 1944; served in The U.S. Navy during World War II; Western Maryland College, A.B., 1950; University of Michigan Law School; University of Maryland Law School, LL.B., 1953. Admitted to the Maryland Bar, 1953; House of Delegates 1963-1966, 1967 Constitutional Convention of Maryland; Trustee of McDaniel College 1976 - 2006 (formerly Western Maryland College); Member of The Bachelors’ Cotillon; Member, Regional Planning Council; Governor's Committee to Promote Employment of the Handicapped; Human Relations Commission; Trial Court Judicial Selection Commission, Fifth Judicial Circuit; Fair Campaign Financing Commission; Senior partner, Dulany, Leahy, Curtis & Beach LLP; Chair, Boards of Carroll County Bank & Trust Co.; Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Carroll County; Episcopal Ministries to the Aging, Inc.; Member, American, Maryland State, and Carroll County Bar Associations; President, Carroll County Bar Association; Vice-President, Maryland State Bar Association; President, Maryland Bar Association; Vestryman, Ascension Parish; Served on the Board of The Maryland Historical Society; President of The Carroll County Historical Society (1977-1982); Member of the Heart Association of Maryland; Chairman of the Board, American Heart Association (National) and recipient of The Gold Heart Award (Highest Honor); Member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Above all else, Bill was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was intensely proud of his family. He loved generously and was loved in return. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Tranquillity Farm. He was devoted to his family, his community, his country, his profession and his heritage. We were blessed to have him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Winifred Spencer Dulany, two sons: William Bryant Dulany (Karen), Thomas Patrick Dulany (Heidi); daughter, Anne D. Eliason (Dean); nine grandchildren: William Michael Dulany, Kathryn Ann Dunn (Kyle Dunn), Scott William Dulany, Peter Robert Dulany (Faith Dulany), Griffin Patrick Dulany, Brandon Bryant Dulany, Tate Matthew Dulany, Jack Harper Eliason, Quinn Dulany Eliason; great-grandchild, Brayan Michael Dunn, and brother Harry Dulany. His brothers George and Dan predeceased him. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Integrace Fairhaven - 7200 3rd Ave, Sykesville, MD - in The Beasman Auditorium. Rev. Wayne Larsen will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to either The American Heart Association: 1-800-242-8721 or the William and Winifred Dulany Scholarship Fund (McDaniel College).
