Russell Brown

Russell Leon Brown, Jr. departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Talbot Hospice Center in Easton, Maryland. He was 84 years old. Affectionately known as “Buck,” he was born on August 22, 1929, in Dorchester County to the late Russell and Elsie Mae Brown. He was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System. He served in the United States Armed Services from 1951- 1953. He was employed for 28 years by the State of Maryland. During that time, he worked for the State Highway Department and the Eastern Shore Hospital Center as a maintenance mechanic and supervisor of the Motor Pool. In 1968, Russell married Frances and they made their home in Preston, Maryland. Russell loved the Lord and was always concerned and willing to help others. He was a member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Preston, Maryland. As a member, he was an usher, he served as the chairperson of the Trustee Committee, was on the Finance Committee, and he helped with the Men’s Breakfasts. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and collecting and repairing clocks. He loved clocks so much that he got certified in clock repair. Russell was also a past-member of the Prospect Lodge #95. Russell is survived by his wife, Frances Brown of 45 years, and their dog “Poodie;” two brothers, Samuel and Hansel Brown of Cambridge, Maryland; four sisters-in-law, Mary Stanley and Janice Rouse of Hurlock, Maryland, Brenda Gwynn of Greensboro, North Carolina and Dorothy Stanley of Memphis, Tennessee and one brother-in-law, William Stanley of Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Emerson Brown; one brother-in-law, Webster Stanley; two sisters-in-law, Vernetta and Frances Brown and a niece, Adrian Stanley. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by all.
