Obituary for Charles Hawkes

Charles Hawkes, 81, of Hamilton passed away at home Saturday, May 21, 2011 following a brave battle with cancer. He was a loving husband of Mary Anne C. (French) with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was a retired Navel Architect from the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. He also worked at the former Boston Navel Shipyard. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston. He was a member of The American Legion as well as The Swedish Birka Lodge in Hamilton. He was an avid gardener and had enjoyed skiing and sailing and spending time with family and his beloved cats. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He will be missed by all who knew him especially those who called him “Charlie” from his days at Terrace Pines Campground in New Hampshire that he was so fond of.

He is survived by his wife Mary Anne C. Hawkes and his sons Eric S. and his wife Amy of Portland, Maine and Gregory V. and his wife Penny of Beverly, MA. He cherished his grandchildren, Tara E. Hawkes and Oscar P. Hawkes as well as his cats Athena, Tasha and Paws.

Services are private for family only. Arrangements by the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
