Obituary for Doris A. Picardy

Mrs. Doris A. (Wright) Picardy passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 18th at the Radius Healthcare Center in Danvers, she was 88. Born in Lynn, MA on March 18, 1924 she was the daughter of Elmer and Lena (Boissonneau) Wright. Raised in Saugus, she was a graduate of Saugus High Class of 1943. Upon graduation Doris went on to work at General Electric in Lynn as an office clerk. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles C. Picardy, the couple married on September 2, 1945 (VJ Day).
In 1949, Doris and Charlie moved to 11 Smithson Drive in Beverly, where they raised their three boys: Stephen, Jack and Charles. She resided in Beverly for the remainder of her life. Doris was a long time parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, and was an original member of the Cove Community Center. She drove the school bus for the YMCA in Beverly, and volunteered at the election polls in the Cove for over 50 years. A long time employee at the A&P until it’s closing, Doris then went on to Henry’s Market, where she was a fixture for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 84!
Doris and Charlie were long time square dancers and Doris enjoyed bowling at the Bowl-o-Mat until her retirement. Having suffered a stroke in 2010, Doris resided at Radius Healthcare in Danvers.
She is survived by her sons: Stephen C. Picardy of Beverly, Jack Picardy and his wife Paula of Beverly, and Charles W. Picardy of Newmarket, NH; her nine grandchildren: David and his wife Tara, Jonathan, Robert, Christopher, Michael, Anthony, Nicholas, Chaz and Andrea Picardy; and her great grandchildren: Cody, MacKenzie andCassia. In addition to her husband Charles, she was predeceased by her siblings: Harry Wright, Eleanor Shafner, Virginia Roberts and James Wright.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours in the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street North Beverly, on Monday, Sept. 24th from 4PM to 7PM, followed by Words of Remembrance and Memoriam at 7PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be sent to the Radius Healthcare Resident Council Fund, 56 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
