Obituary for Edna B. Minigan

Edna B. Minigan, 93, passed away peacefully March 23 after a long illness, in Sonoma, Calif.

She was born Mary Alice Edna Burgoyne on October 22, 1922 in Salem, Mass. and lived a long and productive life, making many friends, building a rewarding career and passing along strength and faith to her small but growing extended family.

After graduating from Salem High School in 1940 with distinction in the business track, she joined Empire Clothing in Salem in the bookkeeping department. It was there that she one day met the handsome and dashing express delivery driver Bob Minigan, who would become her husband of more than 50 years and her lifelong spiritual and family partner. Together they survived the struggles of the Great Depression and World War II, emerging a stronger and wiser team.

From Empire Clothing, Edna joined Almy’s Stores, also in Salem, where she built a long career managing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables operations. During this tenure, she and Bob welcomed to the world their only child, Michael, and the family moved from Salem to Beverly, where they would reside for the next 55+ years. Edna completed her long career as Accounting Manager for Johnny Appleseed’s retail and catalog operations in Beverly.

While in Beverly, she was a faithful and dedicated parishioner of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Roman Catholic parish, where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild.

In retirement, Edna and Bob enjoyed many international trips, and they couldn’t wait to visit immediate family as they welcomed grandchildren in several different stateside locations.

Never one to miss an adventure, Edna relocated to Sonoma, Calif. in 2012 at the age of 88, to be close to family and to experience, first hand, her grandchildren’s growth and development. She quickly made many friends in her new community of Sonoma Hills Retirement Center, and at her new parish of St. Francis Solano.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her brothers Wilfred and Leo. She is survived by her sister Evelyn (Helinski), by her son, Michael and his wife Elizabeth, and by her grandchildren Kelsey, Jeremiah, Frances and Mary.
She is also survived by several generations of nieces and nephews in both the Burgoyne and Minigan families.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly on Saturday, April 9th at 1:30 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visiting hour will be held prior to the Mass at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, from 12 Noon to 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
