Obituary for Edward J. Leahy

Beverly - Edward Leahy 88, died Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington.
Edward was born in Bath, Maine, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Marion (Tracey) Leahy. His devotion to his faith, family and friends was obvious to all who knew him. He was a kind, gentle soul, and his generosity knew no bounds.
Edward was raised in Beverly, attended St. Margaret’s Catholic School in Beverly Farms and graduated from Beverly High School. His education continued, attending Northeastern University in Boston where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. He was a language translator, having been trained to speak and write Russian which he kept fluent throughout his life.
Mr. Leahy had been employed as an accountant for many years for Raytheon in Lexington until the time of his retirement. Prior to that he worked for Hytron in Danvers.
He is survived by a brother, John T. Leahy Sr. and his loving companion, Betsy Richmond of Beverly Farms, a nephew, John T. Leahy Jr. and his wife, Lyn of Beverly, three nieces, Suzanne R. Audette and her husband, Richard of Gloucester, Jayne L. Pope of Gloucester and Nancy L. Pope of Danvers, two grand-nephews, Thomas Leahy of Beverly and Adam Audette and his wife, Katherine of Beverly Farms, two great grand nieces, Carly Bigelow and Alexandra Audette. He was also the brother of the late Anne Marie Pope.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 672 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. A visiting hour will be held at the church prior to the Mass on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
