Obituary for Elizabeth Ann Dodge

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Dodge, of Danvers, died peacefully with her family at her side Saturday morning, October 4, 2014 at her Thorpe Circle home in Danvers. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip B. Dodge, Jr with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Lee and Marjorie (Richardson) Smith. She graduated from Beverly High School in 1950 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Endicott College in 1952.
Betty worked for CAB (Center for Addictive Behaviors) for over 30 years before she retired, only to be asked to return on a part-time basis, and she finally retired for the second time a few months shy of her 80th birthday.
Betty enjoyed living life. She was a selfless, gentle woman with a kind and generous heart who always found the time to visit a friend or loved one in a hospital or nursing home. Betty was a member of the “Thursday Club Girls” for over 50 years. This was a special group of friends many of whom went to High School together. She also enjoyed learning, reading, walking, swimming, crossword puzzles, music, organizing anything, but most of all her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and “Nanny”. She was also a devoted member of her church and was especially passionate about her mission work supporting such organizations as UNICEF, The Heifer Project, One Great Hour of Sharing, Adopt a Family at Christmas, Haven for Hunger, Beverly Bootstraps, River House and Neighbors in Need.
Betty is survived by her children, Robin Raymond of Sanford Maine, Kimberly Suther and her husband, Chip, of Danvers, Philip Dodge and his wife, Amy, formerly of Danvers, and Lisa Simmons and her husband Thomas of Georgetown; her sister-in-law, Margie Dodge of Seabrook NH; her grandchildren, Matt Raymond and his wife Katie, Andrew Raymond and girlfriend Deanna, Michael Raymond and his wife Chelsea, Nathaniel Raymond and his wife Kirsten, Emily Suther and her fiancée Mike, Eric Suther, Cameron Lessard, Kelsey Lessard, Elizabeth Simmons, Jaclyn Simmons and Steven Dodge as well as six great-grandchildren, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Phyllis Smith Burnett.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held on Saturday October 11, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Congregation Church, 140 Bridge St. Beverly, MA to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Her burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, 30 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Board of Missionaries ~Immanuel Congregational Church, 140 Bridge Street Beverly MA.
