Obituary for Elizabeth M. Leavitt

– Elizabeth “Betty” M. (McCauley) Leavitt, 83, beloved wife of Thomas F. Leavitt, with whom she would have shared 62 years of marriage in May, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Salem, she is the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Sampson) McCauley.

Betty grew up in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School. For many years she was employed as a book keeper for Willard Helburn Leather Factory, Burner Supply and L & B Sales of Beverly. Betty loved getting together with the girls to play Bridge and she enjoyed bowling. Most of all, Betty was devoted to her home and family and will truly be missed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son: Paul Leavitt and his wife Janie of San Antonio, TX; one daughter: Linda Stevens of Hyannis; one brother Richard McCauley of Atlanta, GA; one sister: Helen McCauley of Danvers; five grandchildren: Kelly and Bill Stevens, Paul Foley, and Greg and Erin Leavitt; along with eight great grand children. She is predeceased by her brothers: Robert, William and Larry McCauley.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly Location) on Thursday at 1:00P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7P.M. Burial will be in North Beverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Betty’s Memory to Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
