In 1973, after raising three children she founded Downing House Antiques and Palfrey Cove Shop, where she worked until her retirement in 1986 at age 70.

At age 16 she and a friend rowed a dingy from Baker's Island off the coast of Salem to Dane Street Beach and back, a four mile journey, to get provisions for a camping trip. Ginny learned to ski at Mt. Cranmore in the White mountains of New Hampshire, frequently taking the ski train, a five hour ride, from Boston to North Conway, NH. She introduced skiing to Ernie on their honeymoon in Lake Placid, NY. When Ernie retired from Santin Engineering, she purchased golf clubs for Ernie and herself and took up the game with a passion, winning her flight of the Salem C.C. Club championship at age 75. Though she gave up skiing in her late eighties, she played golf until a few months before her death.
