Mr. George L. Coleman 89, husband of Olive (Hall) Coleman and the late Hazel (Nylund) Coleman, died Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Essex Park Health Care Center in Beverly.
Born in Easton, he was the son of the late William P. and Ann (Lyons) Coleman. His family moved to Beverly when he was two years old and was a member of the graduating class of Beverly High School in 1940 where he was known for his football cheerleading activities and dramatic stage skills.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Air Corp and U.S. Air Force as an officer and bombardier aboard B-17 and B-29 Heavy Bombers.
Following the Air Force, George earned a degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University.
Mr. Coleman had spent thirty five years with Bay Bank and Trust Company (now Bank of America) achieving the title of Vice-President and Marketing Officer.
A King Lion of the Beverly Lions Club, he was also a member of the American Legion Post #0331 of Beverly.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra Bahia of Beverly, grandchildren, Laura and Tracey and several nieces and nephews including Donna (Coleman) Welsh and her husband, Walter who have been quite supportive through the years. He was also the brother of the late Charles E. and Roger W. Coleman.
A funeral service will be held at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location) Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be held at North Beverly Cemetery on Thursday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in George’s memory to Beverly Lions Club, c/o Rebecca Roy, 42 Park St., Beverly, MA 01915 or Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
