Obituary for George W. Cuff

George W. Cuff, age 81 years, husband of Anne M. (Purcell) Cuff, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. Born in Port Chester, New York, he was son of the late George and Elizabeth (McAllister) Cuff.

Mr. Cuff attended schools in Cornish, New Hampshire and Windsor, Vermont, and graduated from Norwich University; he held a commission in the US Army Cavalry. Following graduation he joined General Electric, where he held various engineering, marketing, and management positions, primarily relating to nuclear ship propulsion. He retired from GE in 1986; following his retirement he worked for the US Naval Sea Systems command in Washington, DC. George retired from that position in 1998. Mr. Cuff was a member of the Society of Naval Engineer and Marine Architects and of the American Society of Naval Engineers.

George enjoyed a number of hobbies including sailing and motorcycle touring. He restored a number of antique cars and motorcycles, and belonged to the Model A Restorers Club, the Model A Ford Club, and the New England MG T Register. He was a licensed commercial pilot, and he and his wife, Anne, spent many flying hours to destinations in the Northeast.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Peggy and her husband George Coorssen of Boston; his sister Jean Windsor and her husband Richard Wilder of Worcester; his niece Cynthia Leeds of Shamong, New Jersey; several cousins, including Sherry Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews from Worcester. He was also brother of the late Harold Cuff and his sister Doris.
