Dunedin, FL- J. Avis Parks, age 93, formerly of Wenham, passed away on the morning of May 2nd. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Parks. Loving mother of Stanley B. Parks and his wife, Jane of Dunedin, FL and foster son, Tighe Blackadar of Boulder, CO. Grandmother of Amber P. Parks of Palm Harbor, FL and Angela M. Tinio of Mendon, MA; great grandmother of Madison J. and Michael S. Tinio of Mendon, MA; sister of Joseph Knox and his wife, Marion of Northwood, NH and sister of the late Phyllis Reese and George A. Knox.
Avis was born in Lynn, MA on May 5th, 1922 to Joseph K. and Celia Knox and lived there until she graduated from Lynn English high school in 1939. She moved to Revere after getting married and then moved to Wenham in 1952 and lived there until 2002. During her time in Wenham, she worked at Shore Country Day School and as medical secretary for the pediatric medical practice of Dr. Harry Carpenter and Dr. Norman Gaudrault in Topsfield. She enjoyed involvement and volunteering in the Wenham Congregational First Church, Wenham Garden Club and the Wenham Tea House. For 93 years, she also enjoyed vacationing at the family cottage on Pleasant Lake in Northwood, NH where she leaves several dear close friends and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial in the Wenham Cemetery, Wenham. Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Waltham, MA 01701.
