Obituary for John B. DeLorenzo
John Battista DeLorenzo, 93, of Wells, Maine, husband of the late Eileen (Sherman) Delorenzo passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home. John was born in Beverly Mass on September 21, 1923 son of Guytano and Caroline (Serra) DeLorenzo and educated in Beverly schools. John enlisted in the U S Navy and served until he was honorably discharged. In 1946, John, his brother Antonio Chick, and his brother-in-law, Kenneth P. Stone founded Danvers Concrete Block in Danvers, MA. For many years they manufactured concrete blocks, many of which were used to build housing for service men returning home from WWII . In 1952, John founded Georgetown Building Supply in Georgetown, MA to expand on the building products line. In 1978, Danvers Concrete Block was relocated to the same site. John had a passion for work. He traveled to Georgetown once or twice a week up until the time of his passing. He was quick to offer everyone the benefit of his expertise. Passion for work was second only to his passion for family, in particular, his grandchildren. John beamed with pride as he attended numerous sporting events and shows watching his grandkids perform. John enjoyed his home on Wells Beach and made it the go to place for birthday parties, graduation parties, family gatherings, and other special events. He was also an avid Patriots fan. John is survived by one sister, Rosie Czarnecki of Danvers, MA; one brother, Joseph Pep DeLorenzo of Beverly, MA; four daughters, Jeannie Ferrara and her husband John of Melrose, Ma, Jacqui DeLorenzo of Beverly , Ma, Donna Moulison and her husband Ken of Wells, ME and Jo-ann Matarazzo also of Wells; two sons, Dana Delorenzo and his wife Louise of Kennebunk, ME and Kenneth Booth and his wife Carol of Auburn, NH; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. John was predeceased by one brother and three sisters as well as 3 children, Mary DeLorenzo, Deborah DeLorenzo Geary, and Johnny DeLorenzo. A celebration of Johns life will be held at the Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliott Street, Danvers, MA 01923 on Sunday, December 18 from 11 AM to 2:00 PM.
