Scott,
We all suffer a loss when we lose one from the "Greatest Generation".
I am humbled by their bravery and sacrifice and especially those of a 17 year old.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.

It was a pleasure to meet my cousins John and Paulene several years ago. I will never forget the wonderful time we had together while my mom was still alive. John was a great man. God bless John and Paulene.

The deep sadness I’m feeling now is eased in part by a strong current of gratitude -- that just two months ago I was privileged to meet, and speak with, and begin to know a very special man. Someone who just a few months before had recognized a photograph of my wife’s great-uncle in a newsletter article, and had phoned us here in Toronto, Canada to tell us what he recalled of the fellow 485th enlistee he’d met in Venosa Italy, the relative we will never know, killed in action some 68 years ago, and whose story we’ve been reaching back through time to try and learn. But when we spoke in person this past August, I learned not just about my great-uncle, but also about the life and times and service of this truly remarkable man, and his equally remarkable wife and partner. And that was an honor for which I will always be deeply and profoundly grateful. -- John Bertram (& Mary Gordon)
