MILTON, NH - John R. Ross, age 91 of Milton, NH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at sunset, his favorite time of day.

Jack was born at home in Beverly, Mass on June 21, 1923 to James and Sara Ross. He was one of 8 children. He leaves behind a sister, Barbie Saulnier of Waltham, Mass and a brother Billy Ross of Cathedral City, California.
Leaving vocational school, Jack answered the call to duty enlisting in the US Army during World War II serving as an infantry rifleman, Company B, 383RD Battalion. His unit was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic actions during the Battle of Leyte Island in the Philippines.
Returning from the Pacific, Jack worked a variety of jobs including steeplejack, roofer, auto mechanic. While working as a traveling pipe fitter, he met the love of his life, Marjorie Jean. They were wed on October 4th, 1953. Together they settled in Salem, Mass and began the foundation for a lifetime commitment creating a welcoming home where the door was always open and a place at the table for anyone that visited.
Jack worked at Salem Harbor Station for 30 years and was fondly known by his co-workers as “Barney”.
Upon retirement, Jack and Marjorie made their way north to their new home in Milton, NH lovingly called “Cabin on the Pond”. They tended a glorious garden and hosted many family celebrations.
Jack was always a lot of fun and very kind to other people. He believed that everyone was decent and treated others with the utmost kindness and respect.
