Obituary for Leonard J. Gajewski

Mr. Leonard J. Gajewski 86, beloved husband of Lillian J. (Gagnon) Gajewski, died Thursday morning, May 26, 2011 at the Beverly Hospital.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Bronislaws and Anastasia (Wojtas) Gajewski. He graduated from Salem High School, class of 1941 and attended the Beverly Cooperative Trade School. As a young man he was a member and performed with the Drum Corp in Salem.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country from 1943 to 1946, during World War II as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Gajewski had been employed for forty years as an engineer for the United Shoe Machinery Corp. until the time of his retirement in 1987. He was also a member of the U.S.M.C. Quarter Century Club.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared fifty two years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Young of Peabody, a son, Joseph L. Gajewski of Beverly, three grandchildren, Justine Young and Jennifer Young of both of Peabody and Mark Young of Haverhill, a sister, Josephine Osgood and husband, Robert of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Francis Gajewski.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch Street, Beverly, Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location) Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in North Beverly Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Leonard’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
