Obituary for Louise F. Blair

Louise F. (Larivee) Blair, 91, beloved wife of the late Cecil C. Blair, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family. Born at home and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late J. Ulric and Mary (Hayes) Larivee. Louise was proud to boast that she attended kindergarten at the old Bowditch School and was a scout in Salem’s first Mariner program. She received her education at the St. James School in Salem where she was the president of her graduating class in 1940. She formed cherished lifelong friendships and continued to organize class reunions for over 60 years. Louise was employed as a bookkeeper at the National Biscuit Company, now Nabisco, until her marriage. While a volunteer hostess at the Pequot Mills U.S.O. Club, she met and married the love of her life. In 2012 they were delighted to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary. Louise was an original Betty Crocker Home Tester who worked to develop recipes for box mixes. Louise enjoyed life in Beverly where she made a home for her family. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Church, Beverly Farms, and served as a long term secretary of their religious education classes. She was a tireless volunteer in numerous organizations such as the Friends of Beverly Hospital and the Beverly Historical Society. She was proud to work on Hubert Humphrey’s first gubernatorial campaign and later worked as a warden at the Election Day voting polls. For 45 years Louise especially enjoyed her activities with T.O.P.S. Whether reading as a grandfriend to elementary school children or leading nursing home residents in the rosary, she always thought of others. She loved local history, as well as travel. She had a sharp mind with an incredible knowledge of past and current events. Louise will always be remembered for her enthusiastic energy, prayerful faith and loyal dedication to family and friends.
Louise is survived by three daughters, Mary Blair of Peabody, Patricia (Arthur) Arnold of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Tracy (Richard) Stoney of Danvers; a son, Kevin (Jeanne) Blair of Atkinson, NH; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Arnold of Goffstown, NH, Elizabeth (Larry) Legg of Suffolk, VA, David (Cristin) Arnold of Cherry Hill, NJ, Katie-Jean (William) Young of Amesbury, Kimberly Ann (Daniel) Horvath of Plano, TX, and Brianna, Blair, and Patrick Stoney of Danvers; two great grandchildren, Seamus and Zoey Arnold.
