Obituary for Margaret D. Duignan

Mrs. Margaret Doherty Duignan age 98, passed away quietly on Wednesday evening, December 14, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late James Duignan.
Born January 31, 1913 in Carrigallen, County Leitrim , Ireland , she was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Flood) Doherty. She immigrated to the United States in 1961 with seven children to join her husband in Meriden , CT , with whom she shared fifty years of marriage before his passing. A resident of Hamilton since 1964, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
A skilled and prolific knitter, she wove her love into the many Aran sweaters she knit for her family. She passed on her values of honesty, loyalty and integrity to all her family. Margaret quoted: “Any life is a short life…..and I should know!”
Surviving her are seven children, Bridie Cassidy and her husband, Michael of Meriden, CT, Mary McDonald and her husband, Brian of Meriden, CT, J.J. Duignan and his wife, Gayle of Lake Worth, FL, Anthony Duignan of Hamilton, Sean Duignan of Hamilton, Margaret Edwards of West Haven, CT and Gerard Duignan of Hamilton, fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Paul , 50 Union St ., Hamilton, Monday, December 19, 2011 at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location) Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial in Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Margaret’s memory to Hospice of the North Shore , 75 Sylvan St ., Danvers, MA 01923 or Senior Care Elder Services, 5 Blackburn Center, Gloucester, MA 01930.
