M. Jane Richardson 87, beloved wife of the late Donald M. Richardson, died Saturday, March 15, 2015 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington.
Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Doris (Leavitt) Covey. She graduated from Lynn English High School and studied nursing in the Army Corps of Cadets program.
Mrs. Richardson had been employed for twenty eight years as a registered nurse at Endicott College. Following her retirement, she worked as a floral designer.
A longtime resident of Beverly before moving to Wenham in 1984, Jane was active in the senior citizen circles. She was as member of the Advisory Board of Senior Care in Wenham, the trip coordinator with the Wenham Council on Aging and ran Bingo at Enon Village in Wenham. She was acknowledged and awarded for her community service with the Council on Aging of Hamilton and Wenham. Jane was one of the co-founding member of the Psalms Program which grew to what is now known as NAMI (the National Association of the Mentally Ill). She was a member of the First Church of Wenham and the Book Group at the Hamilton Wenham Library.
As a young woman, she served as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed birds, growing flowers in her garden, traveling and sight seeing. She was also a devoted and diehard Red Sox fan. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on the holidays. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Richardson of Gloucester, a son, Paul David Richardson Sr. of Beverly, four grandchildren, Jennifer Smulligan and her husband, Pat of Lowell, Victoria Rozzi, Valerie Sweeney and Paul David Richardson Jr., five great grandchildren, Abigail Smulligan, Zachary and Olivia Sweeney, and Thomas and Alyson Rozzi, two sisters, Audrey Wilson of Hinsdale, NH and Louise Carr of Salem, two brothers, Karl Emery and his wife, Debbie of TX and Bill Covey of CT and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Diane Marie Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in the Wenham Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her memory to the National Association of the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
