Obituary for Marion G. Salley

BEVERLY – Mrs. Marion G. Salley, 82, of Beverly, beloved wife of Paul V. Salley, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle against Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Lowell, MA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Marion (Conway) Gildea.
Mrs. Salley had been employed for many years as a para-professional in the Peabody school system until the time of her retirement. Prior to that, she had worked as a marketing research manager for Peter’s Marketing Research and a nursery school teacher at the Immanuel Church School in Beverly.
A resident of Beverly for the past fifty six years, she was an active communicant of the former St. Alphonsus’ Church in Danvers where she served as a C.Y.O. leader, a CCD teacher and a confirmation coordinator. She enjoyed crafts, baking, sewing, gardening and crossword puzzles. Marion will be best remembered for her boundless energy, dry wit, strawberry shortcake and “whatever”!

In addition to her husband of 59 years, she is survived by four daughters, Paula A. Salley of Beverly, Ellen M. Salley of Danvers, Maureen S. Kriff and her husband Francis of North Billerica and Beth A. Ferreira and her husband Roy of Beverly; three sons, Michael C. Salley of Dracut, Kevin D. Salley and his wife Diane of Burlington and Brian M. Salley and his wife Celeste of Holliston; ten grandchildren, Bruce and Matthew, Dillon and Thomas, Patrick and Andrew, Katherine, Lauren, Benjamin and Caroline Rose; one sister, Elizabeth Amorelli of Chelmsford; two brothers, Thomas Gildea and his wife Dolores and James Gildea and his wife Tammy all of Maryland, several nieces and nephews. Marion was also the sister of the late Jack Gildea and loved by his widow Janet. She was also a dear friend of Mimi Banegas.
