Obituary for Mary M. Melia

Beverly – Mary M. Melia passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017, after a long period of ill health. She was the loving and devoted daughter of the late Mary (McCarthy) and Thomas Melia of Beverly, MA. She attended St. Margaret’s School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1960. In 1964 she graduated from Salem State College with a B.S. in Education followed by a M.Ed. in Education in 1972. Her entire career from 1964-2001 was spent teaching fourth grade at the Edwards Elementary School in Beverly, MA. Mary loved teaching. Throughout the years she received mutual respect from both her students and colleagues.
She enjoyed playing golf, family visits to Ireland, Caribbean cruises and many summer vacations in Wells, Maine with good friends. She was a loyal fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.
Mary leaves behind nephews Michael Melia of West Hartford, CT, Matthew Melia of Seattle, WA, nieces Colleen Gutierrez of Sammamish, WA, Caitlin Melia of Manchester, and her special niece and caretaker, Patricia Rowell of Haverhill, MA. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Constance Melia of Manchester, several grand nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Mary was predeceased by brothers Thomas and John Melia and her niece Mary Melia.
She deeply appreciated the kindness extended to her from the entire staff at Kaplan House.
Mary will always be lovingly remembered.
Her Funeral will be at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, MA on Monday, March 6 at 10 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem, MA at a later date. Visiting hours will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Sunday, March 5 from 1 PM to 3 PM.
