Meredith G. Kline, 84
S. HAMILTON Meredith G. Kline, 84, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Beverly Hospital. Born in Coplay, PA, and raised in Dorchester, MA, he graduated from Boston Latin School, Gordon College (A.B.), Westminster Theological Seminary (Th.B., Th.M.), and Dropsie College of Hebrew and Cognate Learning (Ph.D. in Assyriology and Egyptology).
A world-renowned covenant theologian, he authored several books, from Treaty of the Great King (1963) to God, Heaven and Har Magedon (2006). His career as professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary (PA), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Seminary California spanned half a century. He was an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. For over four decades he served as speaker, teacher, or waterfront director at Deerwander Bible Conference at various Maine locations.
Meredith was a violin-player and portrait sketcher, applied architectural interests to home and seminary libraries, was a Red Sox and Celtics fan (even when living in Philadelphia), loved New England evergreens, enjoyed walking and canoeing, and avidly read about ancient and modern cosmology.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Muriel Grace (Lambourne); his sister, Gladys Milne of Canton, MA; three sons, Meredith M. (wife Miriam) of S. Hamilton, Sterling (wife Karen) of West Chester, PA, and Calvin (wife Sharen) of Wenham; grandchildren Robert, Michele, David (wife Nancy), Joel (wife Maya), and Jonathan; and great-grandchildren Elijah, Ezra, and Elizabeth Ann.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday April 18, 2007 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church North Shore, 179 County Road (1A), Ipswich.
