Obituary for Michael J. O'Brien

Manchester by the Sea - Michael J. “Joey” O’Brien 67, passed away on Saturday morning, December 24, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Ellen T. (Butler) O’Brien. He was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1963 and went on to further his studies at Wentworth Institute.
A diesel mechanic by trade, Joey worked for several companies on the Boston Fish Pier, namely O’Donnell-Usen Fisheries, Boston Fuel Transportation and Boston Harbor Commuter Services to name a few. In later years, he established O’Brien Marine in Manchester where he worked on local fishing boats and private crafts. A proud Irishman, he enjoyed frequent trips “back home” to Ireland.
He is survived by his longtime companion Patricia Ambrose of Manchester, his sister, Maureen A. Maestranzi and her husband Richard J. of Wenham and their children, Tara, Richard J. “JAS”, Michael and Alanna.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 62 School St., Manchester, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street (North Beverly Location) on Tuesday from 4 to 7p.m. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joey’s memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the charity of one’s choice.
