Obituary for Peter Theodore Christopher

Salem - Peter T. Christopher died Friday, March 18. Peter was born in Salem on August 30, 1921 to the late Theodore and Demetra Christopher. Peter was the devoted husband of Mary (Gounaris) Christopher, whom he met through a cousin (both AT&T Telephone Operators). It was love at first sight and were married a year late in June of 1950. Peter graduated from Beverly High School, school of 1939. He also graduated from Vesper George school of Art in Boston, class of 1942. His war poster was selected and used as a centerfold in the Boston American (Herald) Newspaper. Peter was a World War II Veteran and serviced with headquarters 6th recon group attached to the 5th Air Force seeing service in New Guinea, Luzon, Okinawa, and Japan. His duties included: message center chief and cryptographer encoding and decoding war department info that was received or sent. Prior to shipping overseas, he was responsible for all war department information in the western part of the United States of America.
He was co-founder of Beverly Bowl-O-Mat, River Street Grille, and the Bowl-O-Mat Boat ramp. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Greece, Greek Islands, Turkey, the Island of Patmos, where St. John wrote “The Revelation”, Paris, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, and Jerusalem, where they were house guests of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch. The highlight of his travels was being permitted to enter Christs Tomb by the Greek Orthodox Priests in charge of that section of the Holy Sepulchre and he also entered one of the pyramids in Egypt.
In addition to his wife, he survived by his son Theodore and his wife Amy; his daughter, Emily and her husband James; his grandchildren, Michelle, Peter and Steven Christopher and Stephanie and Maria Angelini; his niece Debra and her husband Jack, along with her great nieces Erica and Allison Lawrence. He is predeceased by his brother Arthur Christopher.
A Funeral Service will be held at Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos Street, Peabody on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
