BEVERLY - Raymond R. Norwood, 87, husband of Carmela (Loreti) Norwood, died after an extended illness on Monday at Beverly Hospital. Born in Beverly, son of the late Raymond R. and Elizabeth (Jackman) Norwood, he lived in Gloucester and Beverly for many years. He also resided in Berlin, NH for a short period and graduated from Berlin High School, class of 1947. Following High School, Ray attended Boston University for two years until he left college to honorably serve his country in Korea as a soldier in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ray was well known in the community as he was employed by the former Beverly Savings Bank for over thirty years before his retirement. He enjoyed playing drums for several Beverly bands and loved bicycle riding. Ray was also an avid Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan.
Surviving him in addition to his wife, Carmela of fifty eight years, are one son, Jeffrey S. Norwood of Beverly; one daughter, Cynthia A. Norwood of Beverly; one brother, Gilbert A. Norwood, MD of Beverly; his in-laws, Philip A. and Dorothy Loreti of Danvers, Paul L. Hennessey of Beverly, Maureen Loreti of Beverly; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, North Beverly, on Friday at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, are on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
