Obituary for Robert D. Midgley

Robert D. Midgley, 79, beloved husband of Barbara (Judd) Midgley, with whom she shared 55 ½ years of marriage, passed away Saturday, August 25, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his family. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he is the son of the late Eric and Doris (Hill) Midgley.

Robert grew up in Pawtucket, and moved to Salem when he was in junior high school. He was a graduate of Salem High School and a graduate of the Wentworth Institute. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He served for 23 years and retired as a Captain. For many years, Robert worked as a machine designer for various companies around the North Shore. He was a talented craftsman. Robert enjoyed drawing, painting, and woodworking. He was a gentle man that loved his family, children and animals, and will truly be missed by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four loving children: Karen Larson of Beverly, Thomas Midgley and his wife Christine of Danville, NH, Amy Halvorson and her husband David of Hudson, NH and Robert Midgley and his wife Rachel of Northborough; two sisters: Doris Dyke of Rowley and Marjorie Clarke of Seabrook, NH; and eight grandchildren: Brian, Robert and Brett Larson, Lisa and Dale Midgley, Garrett and Devon Halvorson and Samantha Midgley; along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Virginia Stewart.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Church in the Cove, 167 Hale Street, Beverly on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly Location) on Wednesday from 4 to 8P.M. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Robert’s Memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923.
