Robert P. Parkhurst, 87 died peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield. He was the beloved husband of Arlene M. (Parkinson) Parkhurst with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Lucy (Killam) Parkhurst and a lifelong resident of Boxford.
Mr. Parkhurst was a graduate of Topsfield High School and furthered his education at trade school to become a machinist for more than 30 years at the former GTE Sylvania in Salem, being honored as a member of the Quarter Century Club. Robert served his community by being a member of the volunteer fire department and the Boxford Village Cemetery Committee for over 15 years. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, holding many positions over the years, including Scout Master of Troop 51 in Boxford. Mr. Parkhurst was a Freemason with the former New Meadows Lodge of Topsfield, later Budleigh Lodge of Beverly. He was a man of the outdoors, fishing and camping being favorite activities, along with being the oldest member of the Boxford Men’s Bowling League.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are his children, John R. Parkhurst and his wife Debra of Boxford, James A. Parkhurst and his wife Susan of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Cheryl E. Morales and her husband Javier G. of Boxford; his sisters; Rebecca Parkhurst of North Andover, Ada Loyzelle of Proctor, Vermont; his grandchildren, Aimee R. Parkhurst, Elyse D. Parkhurst, Aleida M. Morales, Veronica R. Morales, and Brian M. Parkhurst. He was also the brother of the late Ruth Hanson.
A Graveside Service will be held in North Beverly Cemetery on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at ll:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
