Hamilton - Roger B. Thompson, age 91, of Hamilton and formerly of Beverly husband of Lois (Cail) Thompson passed away peacefully Monday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born and raised in Beverly, he was the son of George and Abby (Trask) Thompson. Roger served his country in the Navy during World War II. He then studied dairy manufacturing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While at UMass he also minored in Art.
Roger worked at Richardson’s Dairy until his retirement at the age of 84. He loved his job making ice cream and chances are he had a hand in every scoop for over 40 years. He enjoyed a bowl of ice cream every night. Roger also enjoyed gardening, and watching the birds out his window. He was passionate about football and the Patriots. He was always happy to sort through everyone’s change and he would let you know if you had any treasures.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Roger leaves his children, Roger Thompson Jr. and his wife Nancy of Hamilton; Janet Willwerth and her husband Robert of Manchester; Ronald Thompson and his wife Lianne of Rowley; Richard Thompson and his wife Cathy of Newton, NH; and Nancy Thompson and her partner Tim of Ipswich; Grandchildren Gretchen Willwerth and fiancé Dave; Michael Willwerth and wife Liz; Ian Thompson and Brenna Thompson; Brian, Kayleigh, Erin and Brittney Thompson; and Manny Thompson. He also leaves a brother, George Thompson and his wife Mary of CA; a sister Jane Mercaldi and husband William of Concord. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Mary Thompson.
A Memorial service will be held at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street Beverly on Thursday at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be prior to the service on Thursday, August 14, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
