Obituary for William E. Harris

William E. “Bill” Harris, age 55 years, companion for 22 years of Deborah A. Overberg, died on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his home in Beverly. Born at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Byron H. and Helen M. (Wydra) Harris. He resided in Beverly the past 25 years.

Mr. Harris served on the USS Mitscher in the U.S. Navy after graduating from his High School in New Jersey. After moving to the North Shore he worked as a Lobsterman in Beverly, a Gill Netter in Gloucester, and a foreman for Tobin and Sons Movers of Peabody for 15 years. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, travelling, and was an avid sports fan. He was also an active member of the Italian Community Center in Beverly, where he would cook for the Annual Club Cookout.

Surviving him in addition to his companion, are his children, Billie Jo Harris and her husband John of New Jersey, and William E. Harris, Jr. of Maine; his sisters, Cathy Nettle and her husband Phillip of New Jersey, and Donna Tatum of New Jersey; his grandchildren, R.J., John, Isaiah, and Preston; his many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was also brother of the late Byron “Spud” Harris.

A Memorial Service will be held by the family at the American Legion Spear Post 311, 3 Judson Street, Beverly on Saturday from 1 to 6pm. Arrangements by the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, contribution may me made to the charity of one’s choice.
