George Edward Novick

Clinton-George E. Novick, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Lakes Region Medical Center in Laconia, NH. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Gladys T. (Kosiewski) Novick; their children, Jane Charland & husband Joseph, with whom they lived, of Laconia, NH; Ann Dayle O’Malley of Rutland, VT; and Susan Matuszewski & husband Michael of Templeton. He leaves his sister, Sophie Cannella of Stow; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Jillian Zegarelli & Michael, Megann O’Malley, John O’Malley, George Matuszewski & Tammy, and Alex Matuszewski & Kristine; 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his siblings, Laura Lopez, Jane Seaward, Henry, and Frank Novick.

George was born Stow, MA and raised in Maynard, son of the late Alexander & Agnes (Matuszek) Novick. A member of the graduating class of 1944 and standout athlete, George played tight end and defensive end for Maynard High School Varsity Football team and broke his nose while doing so. It became a constant joke among his grandsons - that he played with a leather helmet! Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and proudly served our nation in the China Burma India Theater. Upon his return home, George and his wife Gladys became the proud owners of “the House” on Harris Hill, where they raised their family for 55 years before moving to Laconia, NH with their daughter Jane and her husband. A lifelong Master Pressman, George worked for the Colonial Press in Clinton for 27 years until its closing and ultimately retired from H.N. Sawyer Printing Company in Boston in 1992. He was a life member of the former Our Lady of Jasna Gora Parish in Clinton and served as the Chairman of the Annual Bishop’s Fund. He was the former Commissioner of the Clinton Lassie League and enjoyed all sports, notably golf and football. Above all, he cherished time with his family and will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at St. Joseph the Good Provider Church, 52 West St., Berlin, with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.
