Mary E. McIntyre

Clinton-Mary Elizabeth (Quinn) McIntyre, age 69, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 4, 2019. Mary was born in Clinton to Raymond and Carmella (Manganaro) Quinn on August 7, 1949. She was married to the love of her life, Edward W. McIntyre, for 47 years. Mary was a graduate of Clinton High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master's in Education from Fitchburg State University. Mrs. McIntyre dedicated her entire life to being an educator of children with learning disabilities in the Clinton Public School System as well as at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School in Charlton. She was a caring and compassionate teacher who passionately believed in helping every child fulfill her potential. She was not only an educator to her students but she oftentimes acted as a mother figure, ensuring these children had a person she could confide in and rely upon and also ensure she had the basic needs such as food and clothing to not only survive but to succeed in life. Upon her retirement, Mary was recognized as having affected eternity as all great teachers strive to do. Mary was also a voracious reader and avid knitter. Over the past several months, she knitted countless hats to benefit Karen's Closet, a non-profit to memorialize the daughter of a close family friend.

As a mother, Mary was patient, kind and compassionate. She encouraged and supported each of her three children in pursuing their highest goals. She saw in them so much untapped potential that they were able to realize because of her unconditional love for them. Although her children are in their forties, Mary still mothered them like they were her babies. She gave them wings to fly but she also provided them the security of a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen. Her listening ear always reminded you that you were stronger and smarter than you believed. Mary was known to send a check in the mail or leave it at your home after she left saying, "This is between us, don't tell your dad."

Mary lived life with a smile and an infectious personality. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ed, but she found once her four grandchildren were born that she loved any travel where they were involved. Travelling to New Hampshire, Cape Cod or the Outer Banks with her grandchildren made her the most happy she could be. Her grandchildren became her life in 2007 with the birth of Caitlyn Marie McIntyre. She spent countless hours shopping for or with them, Face Timing them, visiting or vacationing with them and above all, loving them. In Mary's world, the sun rose and set on these four children.

Mary is survived by her husband, Edward W. McIntyre; her son, Michael C. McIntyre and his wife, Laura of Duxbury; and their two children, Caitlyn Marie and Paige Elizabeth; her daughter, Kathryn M. Sullivan and her husband, Thomas E.
