Berlin-Rev. Robert M. Spellman, 74, retired Pastor of St. Joseph the Good Provider Church in Berlin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Spellman of Eastchester, NY; Ann Spellman of Melbourne, FL; and James F. Spellman, Jr. & companion Jun Park of Peekskill, NY; several cousins, extended family and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his parents, James F. & Margaret (Dolan) Spellman, and step-mother Eva Spellman.

Born in New York City, he was raised in Mt. Vernon, NY, and graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 1968. He achieved his undergraduate degree from St. Michael College in Santa Fe, NM, and entered the seminary of Holy Apostles in Cromwell, CT. Fr. Spellman was ordained a priest on May 4, 1974 by Bishop Bernard Flanagan at St. Paul’s 
Cathedral in Worcester. Fr. Spellman served Associate Pastor assignments in the parishes of St. Mary’s in Southbridge, St. Francis of Assisi in Fitchburg, Our Lady of the Lake in Leominster, St. Mary’s in Uxbridge, Our Lady of the Assumption in Millbury, Our Lady of the Rosary in Worcester, and St. Anne’s in Shrewsbury, before being named Pastor of St. Joseph the Good Provider Parish in Berlin in 1999, where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Through his vocation Fr. Spellman proudly ministered to a great people of faith and served his many communities as chaplain of police and fire departments. Fr. Spellman will lie in honor on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 5 until 7PM in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church, 52 West St., Berlin, with a Vigil Service to follow at 7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church, Berlin, with Most Reverend Robert J. McManus as the Principal Celebrant. Burial will be held privately in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Pawcatuck, CT. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rev. Robert M.
