Ernest A. Viger

DRACUT - Ernest A. "Pete" Viger, 88, of Dracut, died Wednesday evening December 16, 2009 in the D'Youville Senior Care Center, Lowell. He was the husband of the late Josephine I. (Wasylak) Viger who predeceased him in 2006. Born in Lawrence on June 15, 1921, he was a son of the late Alexander and Georgianna (Bergeron) Viger. He received his education in the North Andover school system and was a graduate of Johnson High School class of 1939. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a Ship's Service Man First Class in the United States Coast Guard. Prior to his retirement as the Shipping Foreman, Mr. Viger had been employed for 32 years by the Lawrence Paper Board Company. Active in his community he was a member of the Lowell VFW Walker Roger Post 662, a member of the Dracut American Legion Leo C. Roth Post 315, a member of the Council 67 Knights of Columbus in Lawrence and a member of the Dracut Senior Citizens. He was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut and a member of the old St. Francis Church Holy Name Society. Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law Katherine Ann and George Ignacio of Dracut; two sons and daughters-in-law Dennis E. and Michele Viger of Pelham, NH and Michael J. and Patrice Viger of Methuen; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jeanette Provençal, Aline LaFlamme, Cecille Masse and Raymond Viger.
