Dorothy Meilus

BARRE- Dorothy L. Meilus, 90, passed away June 12, 2017 after a sudden illness. Dorothy’s husband, John, passed away in 2015. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Carol and David Lehto, Susan and Michael Landry and Ann Meilus and her life partner, Thomas Hallgren; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Hardwick to Frank and Louise (Wassel) Moss. Dorothy was a lifelong dairy farmer, bookkeeper, devoted wife, loving mother, humorist and great friend to all that knew her. Dorothy was a passionate debater and a member of the Barre and Petersham Granges. She was an excellent baker who was always happy to donate to any bake sale within the surrounding communities. Dorothy was also an accomplished seamstress, in spite of the fact that she was almost legally blind. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 9:30 - 10:30 am in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Road, Barre, MA. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church 29 South Street, Barre. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made payable to Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, 1461 Old Keene Road, Athol, MA 01331 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
