GRAFTON: Mary Ann (Taparauskas) Smith, 72, passed away peacefully March 18, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family from complications from cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Elton “Jim” Smith, her sons Jonathan Smith and his wife Stacey and Michael Smith and his wife Malissa, her brother Joseph Taparauskas and sister Claudia Boswell along with several nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was born October 20, 1945 in Worcester daughter of the late Anne (Babonis) and Joseph Taparauskas. Her roots were in Shrewsbury where she grew up on Lake Quinsigamond. Mary Ann was a teacher for more than 20 years at both the Canterbury Street School and Worcester and Eli Whitney Elementary School in Westborough. Away from work she prized time with her husband Jim, traveling across the country, to Nova Scotia, Key West, Florida and many points in between. She was also a devoted parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in North Grafton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Mary Ann Friday March 23rd at 12pm at St. Mary’s Church 17 Waterville St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. There are no calling hours. All attending the Funeral Mass are requested to go directly to church. She will then be laid to rest at St. Phillip’s Cemetery in Grafton. Please honor Mary Ann with a memorial donation to St. Mary’s Church in lieu of flowers.
